Recapping some of the newsworthy events of the past few weeks

Was drafted in the 10th round (306th overall pick) and signed by the Kansas City Royals following the 2007 season, forgoing his senior year at Western Carolina.

Named to the preseason All-Southern Conference First Team as selected by the league's head coaches ... Listed among the favorites for SoCon Pitcher of the Year by PGCrosschecker.com ... Considered one of the hardest throwing pitchers in the Southern Conference ... Pitched during the summer in the Coastal Plain League boasting a 1.87 ERA with a 3-2 record and 11 saves in 26 appearances, striking out 29.

2006: Made a career-best 31 total appearances, all in relief, posting a 4-4 overall record ... His nine saves tied for second on WCU's all-time, single-season chart, while also ranking fifth in the Southern Conference ... Threw three or more innings on five seperate occasions, twice tallying four innings pitched in a game with a season-high 4.1 in earning his first win of the season over Princeton on March 19 ... Was named the SoCon Pitcher of the Week and a two-time TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week ... Late in the season, had a streak of 13-consecutive scoreless innings pitched (nine appearances), going 2-0 with four saves over that span ... Struck out a season-high eight in four innings pitched in a win over Davidson.

2005: Was 2-3 in 18 appearances (six starts) with 35 strikeouts in 46.2 innings ... As WCU went 8-1 over its final nine SoCon games, Holland was 1-0 in three appearances (two starts) ... Did allow 11 hits in 11.2 innings, but only allowed two walks with nine strikeouts ... Pitched three innings in relief to get his first career win versus Brown ... Was solid in relief in the first game versus Clemson, pitching the final 2.0 innings with one walk and one strikeout ... Had a good weekend versus Georgia Southern to become WCU's day three weekend starter ... Was one of two pitchers not to allow a run versus the Eagles Friday, getting a strikeout ... Was a tough-luck loser in a start Sunday versus Georgia Southern ... Pitched 4.2 solid innings, allowing six hits and two runs with four strikeouts ... Gave WCU a win in its 2005 regular-season finale, allowing one hit and one walk in 3.1 innings of relief at Wofford.

PRIOR TO WESTERN: Was his team's Co-MVP, while being tabbed All-Northwestern 4-A Conference ... Posted a 5-4 record on the mound as a senior with a 3.41 ERA ... Had 69 strikeouts in 51.1 innings pitched.
